Our homemade moon sand.
This recipe was at our first Farmer's Market and will be coming back this week!
It is a super easy and fun recipe, and you probably have the ingredients at home already.
8 cups all purpose flour
1 cup vegetable/cooking oil.
Mix together thoroughly with your hands or a pastry blender. (If your children enjoy sensory exploration, this is a great step for them to help with!)
Store in an air tight container.
This recipe can be reduced to make a smaller batch.
This is great for building structures, molding, or simply exploring new textures. It is safe, nontoxic, inexpensive, and if your little one decides to eat it, there is nothing harmful in it (with exception to allergies and intolerances).
Some alternatives to this recipe is substituting the cooking oil for baby oil. This isn't non-toxic, so it shouldn't be made for those who would try to eat it. It smells different, and has a different texture.
